Loved to see some information on Gerald Durrell - I was introduced to his books about 20 years ago (in my early teens) when I lived in Africa. I have read and re-read them so many times and it was reading non-fiction that was ACTUALLY fun that got me hook d on animals!Gerald's family sounded so funny and I think it was an escape hatch for me to be able to read about other people's exploits.

Mikhail, Tonight here in Australia there was a programme about Lawrence Durrell on the television. In it there was a brief interview with Gerald Durrell's widow, but I did not notice her name. I did think, however, that despite her British accent her vocal manne isms indicate that she must actually be American. So, at 12:30 at night I dragged myself out of bed and called up the search engine on my computer. It was your site that gave me her name, Lee McGeorge Durrell. Within a few minutes I had discovered that she was a 1971 graduate of Bryn Mawr College. That in itself, of course, did not necessarily prove that she was American. A couple of searches later I found what I was looking for, an interview in South Africa in which she reported that her interest in ildlife was first aroused while she was growing up in Memphis, Tennessee. Thanks for providing me with what I needed to succeed in my search. I hope you are keeping up with your Russian. Language is a terrible thing to lose. i read animals in my suitcase when i was a kid. i,m middleaged now and still do not have a carreer as a naturalist. i sort of lead myself astray on other adventures. anyway i'm sad to hear he had passed away. i've been out of it for awhile. i was looking or information on the simbiosis of the tuatara reptile and the petrels or shearwater sea birds that i thought maybe he wrote about. do you know if they are truly simbiotic or do they just live in the same burrows sometimes. thanks for your web site
